The First Day of School: New Faces and New Dreams

First day of school. Always exciting. New bookpacks. Brand-new shoes. Fresh air. Teachers at the door, by name, greeting teachers and students. Parents smile and attempt to weep.
Columinades thunder. Chortles. Slamming lockers. Ringing bell and all again. Clubs begin. Sport begin. Edison’s heart begin afresh.
All home on last day of week one. Campus is committed. Fresh beginnings.
Fall Semester: Laying Foundations

It begins in Fall. Students become familiar with the teachers and learn in color. Day classes are offered. Rehearsals for after-school clubs. Friendships begin.
Home to school in October is where it’s at. Leaves falling from the trees, smiles on their faces. Midterms are taken by the students and they get to attend fairs and festivals in the fall. December is great. Done with first term. Holidays aren’t too far on the horizon. Everyone looks back and smiles on whatever they’d done.

Mornings are gray and movie-like even during the winter months. The students return rejuvenated with thoughts. Science fair, reading week, and art shows occupy the months.
March sweeps through the base. Board games, concerts, and group activity fill the spring. Spring Break time to unwind and rejuvenate.
May smiles on. Sports competition, award day, and family holiday on the calendar. Graduation looming. Brag and party time.
Breaks and Holidays: Time to Rest and Reflect
Breaks are an instructional module as well. Breaks offer time to unwind and de-stress. Breaks by Edison bring home and make life tangible.
- Labor Day (September): First end-of-year weekend.
- Thanksgiving (November): Thanks, family, food.
- Winter Break (December): Rest, lights, laughter.
- Spring Break (March): Bright Sunny weather and cool.
- Memorial Day (May): Remembrance and thinking.
The whole break is student and teacher break and they return refreshed.
Reports and Progress: Step by Step
Learning is not step by step drudgery. Edison can try out each step ahead of time and rehearse it and experiment.

The teachers learn as well. Planning time, discussion, and planning days are professional days.

Emergency Days: Safety First Always
Safety first. Emergency or inclement weather is acceptable.
Parents are notified by email and cell phone. Make-up days are tacked on so everyone remains on track.
