A day a day to recall. A moment a story. August’s nervous anticipation to May’s celebration, the calendar sees accomplishment, collaboration, and pride.

The First Day of School: New Beginnings

The first day of school is kind of like magic. Kids get in early with new books and huge smiles. Teachers stand outside the door with smiles and cheer.

Dad and mom yell hello as buses zoom past on the street. Classrooms ring with laughter and names being shouted out. By the end of the first week, Scituate hums once more ready for a fantastic year of learning.

Each sport embodies team, courage, and respect — the spirit of sport.

Technology and Learning Tools

Scituate classrooms have heart. Teachers rehearse on Smartboards and on tablets, and heart and imagination are used by teachers to integrate learning into lesson. Internet homework. Reminder to parents of activity and grade in a simple manner. All singing from the same hymnbook through technology.

Teacher Workdays and Professional Development

Teachers make strong schools. Scituate gives time to plan as well.

Staff workshop, lesson planning, teacher workdays. No students in school, but teaching is — just not the same.

Make-Up and Emergency Days

New England weather is unpredictable. Safety first if a snow storm or a storm is forecast.

Parents are informed by text message, email, and web. Make-up days are scheduled ahead all at once so teaching is never cut short.

Student Wellness and Support

Scituate schools are concerned about the welfare of students. Teachers and school counselors show concern and feelings of safety for all.

Activities Include:

Wellness Week (October): Doing well for others and doing well for oneself.
Careers Week (February): Finding futures and fantasies.

It is a joyful hope-filled day. The Baccalaureate Ceremony serves as end of school year in thanksgiving and remembrance.

They have end-of-year school activities. Award ceremonies, memory boards, and sendoff picnics bring them happy days and some bitter smiles.
